CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Colin Comack pitched a no-hitter, striking out eight as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen defeated West Linn of suburban Portland 9-0 in their first game in bracket play in the Diamond Classic wood-bat tournament on Friday.
Comack also hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and Pete Hoffman had three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene, which lost in its final pool play game to Westview of Beaverton, Ore., 8-0 earlier Friday.
"It was nice to see the bats come to life," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said of the win. "We kind of had a plan to see what it was like to play in a single-elimination setting. It was nice to see us start off with a win with Colin pitching."
Coeur d'Alene (29-16) will face Clackamas today at noon. With a win, the Lums would advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday. With a loss, Coeur d'Alene would go to the consolation bracket and play a loser-out game tonight.
