Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 6 months AGO
Gladys A. Kraemer, 91, passed away at Generations Assisted Living in Rathdrum on July 6, 2011. She was born to Julius and Anna Garz on March 17, 1920, in Drummond. She graduated from Ashton High School.
Gladys met her husband Leonard at a church function while he was here from Nebraska working in the harvest on his uncle's farm. He came back a year later for the harvest and they married on Oct. 24, 1939, in Idaho Falls.
Once a farm girl... always a farm girl. Gladys and her sisters grew up on a farm and she and Leonard worked the land also with their three girls (Gayle, Elane and Martha). They rented land in the Ashton area both before and after Leonard went into the Army in World War II. Later they moved to a farm in Southern Idaho (Paul) where they lived until retiring to North Idaho (Rathdrum) in 1996. They spent their winters in Yuma, Ariz., for more than 20 years forming many long lasting friendships.
Gladys and Leonard were active members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Rathdrum. Gladys loved to devote time to quilting and LWML and any other church activity. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, cook and loved to bowl, fish and camp with her husband. She was active in 4-H with her girls also teaching them to can, sew and drive tractors.
Gladys is preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters, Margaret Janssen, Alice Carlson and Clara Gray; son-in-law Jerry Liedtke and granddaughter Heather Hill.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard; daughters Gayle (Brian) Hill of Portland, Ore., Elane Liedtke of South Jordon, Utah, and Marty Nett of Otis Orchards, Wash.; four grandsons, (Jeff, Bradford, Jeremy and Dan); eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Thank You to ALL that helped take care of mom.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
