Lois J. Fahrer, of Coeur d'Alene, formerly of New Rockford, N.D., went to be with our Lord on July 2, 2011, after a short illness.

Lois Jeanette McMillan was born on Dec. 10, 1917, in Canistota, S.D., to Robert and Louise (Tornow) McMillan. Lois obtained her B.A degree in home economics and English education from North Dakota State University in 1939. She taught in New Salem, N.D., where she met another teacher, Arnold "Arnie" Fahrer. They were married July 10, 1943, in Medford, Ore., while Arnie served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lois moved to New Rockford while Arnie was deployed overseas and later taught English and home economics at New Rockford High School.

Following Arnie's death on Feb. 9, 1987, Lois relocated to Coeur d'Alene. She fulfilled the position of house mother for 10 years at the Walden House, an affiliation of the local hospital providing accommodations for families of hospitalized patients, before her final retirement.

Lois is survived by two sons, Robert (Maxine) of Seattle and Frank (Karen) of Sidney, Ohio; and her daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" Avriett of Post Falls. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Nathan, Christin, Kimberly, Shane, Nicole and Amanda; and four great-grandchildren, Cherokee, Hunter, Rylie and Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Arnie, brother Robert and sisters Elsie, Mary and Alice.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m Thursday, July 14, 2011, and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, July 15, 2011, all in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford. Funeral service will be held at at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at First Congregational Church, New Rockford. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
