LEGION

POST FALLS - Riley Denney's walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning finished off Prairie's 13-2 victory over Trail in the second game of a class AA North Idaho League American Legion doubleheader Tuesday at Post Falls High.

In the first game, Prairie scored four runs in the sixth inning to win 4-2.

"Ever since the sixth inning of the first game we woke up, and had a good approach at the plate," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We only struck out seven times on the day. The kids were making contact, being aggressive."

Daniel Mobeck struck out six in five innings in the second game for Prairie (17-18, 11-6 NIL). Gil Givens started the six-run fifth with a solo homer, and Derek Tymesen hit a three-run double in the second inning, and finished with four RBIs.

In the first game, Tymesen's two-run homer tied the game, Kurt South added a sacrifice fly and Cody Vandever delivered an RBI single.

Vandever gave up hits to the first two batters in the seventh to Trail (18-19, 5-5), but got a groundout and struck out the last two batters to earn the save.

Prairie travels to Trail today at 3 to make up a game rained out earlier this season. Prairie then opens play Friday at a tournament in Lacey, Wash., facing SK Heat at 6 p.m. and the Washington Wave at 8:30.
