Spirit Lake to hold free concert series
A free concert series will be held in Spirit Lake in the City Park this summer. The three family friendly events will be held on a Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
Owner of Spirit Lake Music and concert series sponsor, George Bruner, plans to bring different styles of music for each of the three shows.
The first of the series June 22 featured Brad Sondahl, local potter, with acoustic folk and Americana.
On July 23, George and Jeanne with The Barely Playboys will bring their unique brand of acoustic blues, rags and old-time jazz. Featuring Jeanne's big, brassy vocals and George's funky finger-picked guitar and banjo, the couple will be backed by their new band The Barely Playboys.
The combo includes piano man Rick "The Professor" Steiner, Chicago blues man Buzz Daldos on tenor sax and their longtime drummer Kevin "Huff Time" Huff.
The Aug. 27 show is to be announced. Concert goers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnic basket to enjoy a pleasant summer evening and music.

Movies will be shown in the back of the Human Rights Education Institute's building on four Monday evenings:
Popcorn, drinks and candy will be available for purchase.
In the event of rain or other inclement weather, the movie will be rescheduled for a later date.

Aug. 1: The Iron Giant (PG)
Aug. 8: Glory Road (PG)
HREI is the red brick building on the edge of the Coeur d'Alene City Park on the corner of Mullan and Northwest Boulevard.
The movies will start at dusk, about 8:30 p.m.
"As the sun sets, settle in on your blankets or low-back beach chairs for a great night at the movies," according to a press release. "All the fun of a Drive-In, without the cars."

Storyteller at Cd'A library July 19
COEUR d'ALENE - Bill Chambers, a storyteller from Havre, Mont., will present a special program Tuesday, July 19 at 2 p.m., in the Community Room at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.
A longtime Montana resident, former teacher and fan of tall tales, exaggerated stories and fun, Chambers tells his stories using his hat as his only prop. He has been telling stories to children in school assemblies and summer reading programs since 1996.
Chambers' appearance is part of Summer Reading at the library - "One World Many Stories" - and is funded through a grant from the Friends of the Library.
Summer Reading programs continue at the library through July 22.
The World Festival Summer Reading Carnival is scheduled for Thursday, July 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The carnival will feature crafts, activities and food from around the world. Participants should plan to bring a picnic lunch.
Children under 6 visiting the library need to be supervised by an adult or a person who is at least 14 even during programs. Children ages 6-9 should be accompanied by someone who is at least 14 who will remain in the building.
