COEUR d'ALENE - No doubt the hot tub was drained after a 23-year-old Coeur d'Alene man's after-hours soak last weekend.

According to a police report, a man was arrested for unlawful entry and obstructing officers early Saturday morning after entering a stranger's home, making a big stink, and helping himself to the hot tub.

Police said the man entered the garage of the home on the 400 block of North 12th Street around 4 a.m., stripped naked, defecated on the garage floor, then opened the lid of the hot tub in the backyard and, still in his birthday suit, slipped in.

While the suspect luxuriated, the homeowner surprised him with a gun, holding him at gunpoint until police arrived.

The suspect, reported as being heavily intoxicated, was left alone in a back room when the homeowner answered the door to let police in, then took the opportunity to slip out a window, still naked.

After making a break for it, he was chased down by officers in a nearby alley.

The suspect told police he had been downtown drinking.

"When he left he does not remember exactly what he did but he remembers being naked in the hot tub," the police report said.

"He thought at first that he was at his friend's hot tub, but realized he was in the wrong yard. This is when the homeowner confronted him with a gun."

The suspect told the homeowner he didn't want to get into trouble, and he was going to leave.

After climbing out the window, he ran, jumped a fence, crossed a road and hid under a tarp that was draped over some firewood.

According to the officer's report, "(The suspect) told (police) alcohol played a role in his behavior, but felt strange or different than he usually does when he drinks alcohol. (The suspect) felt like he had another substance in his system but did not know what it was."
