Wallace's first Accordion Festival is set for Aug. 11-14.

The Historic Wallace Chamber of Commerce is finalizing plans for the festival which will include workshops, concerts, an accordion parade and entertainment throughout the city.

A special event will be an opportunity for amateur musicians to have their 15 minutes of fame at the Center of the Universe by performing in an open jam session.

The festival will open Thursday, Aug. 11, with a reception for featured guests, sponsored by the Silver Summit Investment Conference. Activities on Aug. 12 will include nationally acclaimed musician Eileen Webber of Spokane performing traditional accordion music in the town's gazebo starting at 2 p.m.

Events on Saturday, Aug. 13, will begin at 9 a.m. with an Accordion Celebration Parade through downtown. Musicians who wish to join the parade may contact the Wallace Chamber of Commerce for copies of the parade music.

Following the parade, the gazebo will become an open stage where accordionists of all skill levels are invited to entertain at 15-minute intervals.

Professional accordion players will present workshops on Aug. 12-13 and will perform at the evening concerts to be held at 6 p.m. at Wallace High School. Advanced seating may be reserved by calling the Chamber, 753-7151. Tickets to concerts and workshops will be on sale starting at noon Aug. 12 near the corner of Sixth and Cedar.
