Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 6 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE - Colin Comack's leadoff home run opened the nightcap and his three-run shot ended the game in six innings and the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen (36-19, 17-3 league) finished their AA Legion baseball regular season as North Idaho League champions with a 12-2, 14-4 sweep of Trail on Saturday night at McEuen Field.
Coeur d'Alene's Chad Nyquist led off the fifth with a solo shot, Joe Roletto added a two-run homer later in the inning and Matt Cade went 4 for 4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, which ended in five innings due to the 10-run rule, Jason Pattis struck out eight in a complete game two-hitter and Mitch Bevacqua had three doubles and two RBIs.
"We're going in (to the district tournament) as the No. 1 seed and we won league," Lumbermen coach Lloyd Duman said. "It seems like we're hitting pretty well heading into the tournament."
Trail drops to 20-22, 9-7, with a doubleheader at Lewis-Clark (10-5 NIL) today.
The district tournament begins Thursday at Trail, British Columbia.

Prairie splits
on first day, plays late Saturday
LACEY, Wash. - Zach Carter and Tyler Shafer combined on a two-hitter for Prairie and the AA Legion Cardinals defeated Showtime Baseball (Vancouver, Wash.) 12-5 to open pool play late Friday night at the Lacey Washington 18U Invitational.
Eric Cooper's two-run double in the third broke a 3-all tie for Prairie (21-21). Cooper finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs.
In the nightcap, Joe Schwalback hit a pinch-hit two-run double in the fifth, but the Cardinals' rally fell short in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Waves (Seattle).
The Cardinals played their final two pool play games late Saturday night vs. the SCA Titans and South Kittsap Heat. Two wins would assure a top-two spot in their pool and advancement to the semifinals. A split would put Prairie at the mercy of a tiebreaker. Only teams advancing to the semis play today.

Asotin 9-3
Bayview 6-9
ASOTIN, Wash. - Beau Magnuson's three-run walk-off home run in the seventh inning lifted Asotin past the Whitecaps in the first game, which counted in the class A Spokane Legion league standings.
"This is the worst ballgame we played all year," Bayview coach Kim Rogstad said. "Mental errors on the bases and in the field killed us. After we probably played our best games against University on Thursday."
A.J. Walls hit a two-run single in the third for Bayview, and Jesse Marks added a two-run double in the fourth.
In the second game, which didn't count in the standings, John Galbraith hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning - Bayview's first home run of the season.
"We're more gapper hitters. We get extra-base hits, but we're not a power-hitting team," Rogstad said.
Reece Dietrich followed Galbraith's shot with a two-run double as part of a seven-run sixth.
Bayview (19-5, 9-3 league) travels to Port Angeles, Wash., to play in the Babe Ruth 18-and-under regionals. The Whitecaps open Thursday with pool-play games vs. British Columbia and a team from Oregon.
