Cycling

British sprinting star Mark Cavendish overcame high wind and "bashing" in the pack to collect his fourth stage victory Sunday at this year's Tour de France in Montpellier, France, as French rider Thomas Voeckler earned the race leader's yellow jersey for a sixth straight day.

Victory in the 15th stage was a 19th win on the Tour for Cavendish, who clocked 4 hours, 20 minutes, 24 seconds.

Golf

Chris Kirk won his first PGA Tour event with a one-stroke victory in the Viking Classic, shooting a 4-under 68 to beat Tom Pernice Jr. and George McNeill by one stroke in Madison, Miss.

• Jack Wagner, the only non-professional athlete to have won the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe in its 22 years, did it again, holding off Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo with a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole at Stateline, Nev., and overcoming a shot into the pond guarding the par-5 18th.

Football

Talks to end the NFL lockout will resume with the court-appointed mediator in New York today and could continue through Thursday.

The mediator, U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan, originally had ordered representatives of the league's owners and players to meet with him Tuesday in Minneapolis.

Phillies 8, Mets 5: Michael Martinez hit a three-run shot to lead Philadelphia past New York for its seventh straight series win.

Giants 4, Padres 3, 11 inn.: Chris Stewart drove in the go-ahead run with a suicide squeeze in the 11th, and visiting San Francisco beat San Diego.

Braves 9, Nationals 8: Freddie Freeman singled home the winning run in the ninth to give host Atlanta a victory over Washington.

Brewers 4, Rockies 3: At Denver, Shaun Marcum tossed five solid innings before leaving with a strained neck and Milwaukee held off Colorado.

Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 1: At Phoenix, Daniel Hudson threw a five-hitter to lead Arizona past Los Angeles.

Pirates 7, Astros 5, 11 inn.: Pinch-runner Josh Harrison scored on a passed ball for the first of visiting Pittsburgh's three runs in the 11th to lead the Pirates over Houston.

Marlins 7, Cubs 5: Greg Dobbs hit a two-run homer and drove in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth, leading visiting Florida past Chicago.

Tennis

Juan Carlos Ferrero overcame a long rain delay to defeat Pablo Andujar 6-4, 6-0 in an all-Spanish final of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany.

Hockey

The Stanley Cup finally arrived in Canada, just a few hours late.

Nathan Horton's day with the trophy was shortened when it was caught up in a flight delay.

It finally arrived in Dunnville, Ontario, around 2:30 in the afternoon, after many of those who turned out to see it had left.
