COEUR d'ALENE - A 39-year-old Post Falls man on Friday was sentenced to up to 15 years in state prison for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl for more than a year.
Terence W. Turner pleaded guilty in May to lewd conduct with a child, the Kootenai County prosecutor's office announced Monday.
Turner was sentenced by 1st District Court Judge Lansing Haynes, who ordered that the first five years of the sentence must be served. He'll be eligible for parole after that.
Turner has prior misdemeanor convictions for inattentive driving, two counts of driving without privileges, failure to notify authorities after striking an unattended vehicle and reckless driving.
Haynes considered the sexual abuse, including Turner's use of violence as related by the victim, in determining the appropriate sentence.
Kootenai County prosecutor Barry McHugh said in a press release, "The fixed term guarantees that Mr. Turner will not be able to victimize other children or commit other violent offenses for five years, and then he will be evaluated by the Department of Correction to determine whether he should spend the rest of his term in prison."
