Jacqueline Ann Portis, born April 28, 1924, known to family and friends as "Jacquie," passed away peacefully on July 1, 2011, in Post Falls.

Jacquie lived most of her adult life in Montana, first in Billings and then Joliet, before she and her husband Everett moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1987 to be closer to grandchildren. She was a woman of abundant energy and generosity, using her many talents as a seamstress, quilter, gardener and artist to provide countless contributions to the local humane society, hospitals and Kootenai County. For her charitable contributions she was named Individual of the Year by Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, and was known affectionately as "the quilt lady."

She is preceded in death by her eldest son, Larry Portis, of Paris, France, who died unexpectedly on June 4, 2011.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Everett Portis, of Coeur d'Alene,; children Ed Portis, of Corpus Christie, Texas, and Marie Portis, of Bothell, Wash.; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her sister, Colleen Hawkins, of Greensburg, Ind.; and friends too numerous to list. Jacquie was a fun-loving, out-spoken, loving and caring woman, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
