Lilia Lue Elizabeth Mabel Hunt Baltzell was born to eternal life on July 15, 2011, at Maple Lane Health and Rehab Center, Shawano, Wisc. Her husband and daughter were by her side. Lilia was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Bemidji, Minn. She was the daughter of Beherell and Mathilde (Hoppe) Hunt. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Glenn Peter Baltzell. Three children were born in Bemidji, Minn. They resided in Bemidji until 1953, when they moved to Glendive, Mont. After six years in Montana, they crossed the mountains and settled in Coeur d'Alene.

In 2009, they moved to Appleton, Wisc., to be near their daughter. Lilia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to go on short road trips all over the Northwest, mapping the route to be sure the return trip was never the same road travelled out... what would be the point in seeing it again if you could see something different and still end up back home?

Lilia and her dear friend, Rose Tucker, Coeur d'Alene, served on the Alter Guild at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene for many years. She was active in LWML, loved to poke through antiques and collectibles, and played a good game of Tri-Ominos with all challengers.

Lilia is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Glenn; daughter, Gaynette (Jim) Brooks, Appleton; son, Gary (Debbie) Baltzell, Spokane; daughter-in-law, Kim (Dale) Baltzell, Moses Lake, Wash.; her grandchildren, Amy Suzanne, Emileigh Anne, Lori Denise, Angela Kim, Adam, Gary Richard, Jr., Marshall, and Jason; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lauryn, Jacob, Samuel, Benjamin, Rebecca, Kendall, Sutton, Kahlia, and Sawyer. Furthur survived by her brother, Jack Hunt, Bemidji, Minn., sister-in-law, Wanda Baltzell, Bemidji, Minn., and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving son, Dale Baltzell; her sisters and their spouses: Dorothy and Howard Baltzell, Vivian and Gale Baltzell; her brothers, Gerald, Earl, Donald, Harry, and Jim Hunt; her sister-in-law, Virginia Baltzell Holt; her brothers-in-law, John and James Baltzell; and her parents.

When she needed care beyond her family's abilities, she made her home in the Alzheimer's unit at Maple Lane in Shawano, Wisc., where the devotion and care of the staff was always loving and gentle. She loved her "girlfriends," which was her name for the nurses and CNAs that care for the residents. She loved to joke with them, pull little stunts, and help them entertain other residents when she was able. When names failed her, she still identified them as "the boss" or "my coffee buddy" or "my people." We cannot express in words our appreciation for the care she received, but it brought peace of mind to us knowing she was well-cared for and loved. They are family and friends, not just staff.

In accordance with Lilia's wishes, there will be no services. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
