COEUR d'ALENE - Michael R. Kent, 39, of Spokane, pleaded guilty this week in U.S. District Court to bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson, in Boise, announced in a press release.
According to a plea agreement, Kent admitted that on Jan. 12, 2010, he approached a teller at a Washington Trust Bank branch in Coeur d'Alene, and handed her a note demanding a bundle of cash. The branch is located at 218 Lakeside Ave.
The note also made reference to a gun. After giving the defendant $3,175 in bundled cash, Kent fled the bank.
Law enforcement sealed off several blocks downtown for about an hour to search for him.
Video footage of the robbery released to the media assisted law enforcement in identifying and apprehending Kent, Olson said.
FBI agents searched Kent's residence and discovered clothing that matched the items worn by the bank robber, including a jacket, clothing and boots.
The charge of bank robbery is punishable by serving up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 27, at the federal courthouse in Coeur d'Alene.
The case was investigated by the FBI, the Idaho State Police and the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.
