Fire destroys garage

A fire destroyed the garage of a waterfront home on the west side of Lake Coeur d'Alene near Kidd Island Bay on Thursday.
Homeowner Tom Minot, who received facial and chest burns and was treated on scene, described the blaze as a fuel fire.
He declined to comment further, other than to thank responders from Mica-Kidd Island, Coeur d'Alene Fire and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue for their efforts.
Minot was the lone person at the home at 4994 S. Rockshore Drive in Stevens Point Estates.
The fire, reported at 4:20 p.m., spread to the attic, but most of the living area was spared.
Mica-Kidd Island Chief Jason Blubaum, who was on his first day on the job, said Minot was working on a vehicle when the fire started.
"There were reports of gunshots or explosions going off in the garage," Blubaum said. "He apparently had ammunition in the garage."
A KCFR fire boat also responded to the home to pump water to the fire.
An investigation continues.
