In my last two articles I discussed hormonal factors that produced two classes of eicosanoids. Diets that encouraged glucagon dominate series one eicosanoids decreased inflammation as well as other important things, where diets that encouraged insulin dominant series two eicosanoid production increased inflammation as well as other things.

Both series of eicosanoids are important in balance. So what role can our diet play in all of this? A diet dominated by carbohydrates are shown to increase levels of insulin. Protein-dominated diets showed far less change to insulin levels.

If our goal is to strive for a balance between glucagon and insulin, then a diet with a little more protein and fat with fewer carbohydrates would seem to be indicated. Not only could you notice a change in inflammation and pain but also in your weight.

The Ideal Protein Diet/Treatment has yielded wonderful benefits not only with regard to weight loss and control, but also with those who suffer from inflammatory conditions and such diseases as hypertension, asthma, COPD, immune disorders and type II diabetes to name a few.

The Skinny on Weight Loss: Part I

As attested to by the many ads in the media, we are a nation of dieters. According to the Surgeon General of the United States, "The greatest threat to our country isn't terrorism, it's obesity." Perhaps more of us should be thinking about losing the unhealthy extra weight we've accumulated. But losing weight is physiologically unnatural. Many of you have tried can attest to that and that's why 95 percent of people who have successfully lost weight will gain it back.
