The Swan Crest 100 ultra-marathon race was canceled this year because of deep snowpack in the higher elevations of the Swan Range.

The race was scheduled to start July 29.

The route of the 100-mile foot race from Swan Lake to Bad Rock Canyon includes Forest Service roads and Alpine Trail No. 7.

In its first running last year, 20 of the 44 runners completed the course. Forty runners had signed up for this year's race.

Race director Brad Lamson, who hiked the race route earlier this month, said about half the course is under several feet of snow, making it difficult for runners to locate the route and safely finish the race in under 36 hours.
