SWIMMING
The Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team sent five athletes to compete in the Speedo Senior Sectionals Long Course Championship in Gresham, Ore., July 19-23.
Bryce Kananowicz, 15, was CAST's highest finisher. He earned fifth place in the finals in the 200-meter backstroke, seventh place in the 100 backstroke, and 14th in both the 200 and 400 individual medleys. Kananowicz, a dual citizen, also swam fast enough in his 1,500 freestyle to get a Canadian Olympic Trials qualifying time.
Kananowicz broke Inland Empire Swimming records in the 100 and 200 backstrokes, while his teammate Joseph Loftus, 16, broke the 200 butterfly record. Loftus also made finals - finishing in the top 32 among 800 athletes. He earned 12th in the 200 butterfly, 21st in the 400 IM, 27th in the 100 butterfly and 32nd in the 100 backstroke.
Anna de Tar, 17, had a fantastic meet as well, dropping time in every one of her events. Seniors Kjirsten Magnuson, 18, and Patrick Loftus, 17, each earned personal best times at the meet. Magnuson will be swimming for Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and Loftus will head north to swim for Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, this fall.
Skipper wins: Spencer Skipper of Coeur d'Alene won the boys 15-19 division at an Idaho Golf Association tournament July 12-13 at Bryden Canyon Golf Course in Lewiston.
Skipper shot 68-76-144 to win by one shot. Trevor Fedele of Post Falls tied for second with a 76-69-145, John Duffin of Hayden tied for fourth at 72-76-148, and Brennan Stillinger of Dalton Gardens was sixth at 72-78-150.
FOOTBALL
Coeur d'Alene camp: Room still remains in a Junior Tackle camp scheduled to be put on by Viking coaches and players.
Those who have not registered can show up Sunday at 5 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene High and sign up then. The camp runs next Monday through Wednesday, and the cost is $50.

COEUR d'ALENE RECREATION
Soccer: Registration for fall leagues for grades K-7 is Aug. 1-10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department, 710 Mullan.
Cost is $11 for city residents, $22 for non-city residents.
Games are scheduled to begin after Labor Day.

Flag football: Registration for grades 2-3 is scheduled for Aug. 1-31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department.
