'Sound of Music' to close season
The "Sound of Music" will close the Summer Theatre's 44th season.
Celebrate the 45th anniversary of this timeless musical filled with familiar songs such as "My Favorite Things," "Climb Every Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi" and" Edelweiss." Based on a true story about the Von Trapp family, a governess, and their undying love of music and homeland.
Summer Theatre standouts, Jessica Skerritt (Cinderella in "Cinderella" last summer) and her husband Dane Stokinger ("Pump Boys and Dinettes" last summer) will star as the leads, Maria and Captain VonTrapp. The cast also features local children in the roles of the VonTrapp kids.
The show will be directed by Kirk Mouser, who directed "Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon" and "Hairspray" all at Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre.
The show runs from Aug. 11-21 with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and matinee shows on Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket prices: $39.95 for adults, $35.95 for seniors and $25.95 for children (ages 6-12).

Maria Mulduar to headline event
The Spirit Lake Red Wine & Bluz fest announced Maria Mulduar as the headline act for the event expanded this year to two days, Aug. 19 and 20.
Mulduar is a six-time Grammy nominee, including her recent 2011 Grammy nomination. Her most famous 1970s hit, "Midnight at the Oasis" is still being played on radio stations nationwide.
This will be Mulduar's only appearance in the Pacific Northwest this year and she is regarded as one of the top female blues artists in the nation.
The Bluz Fest will also include regional sensations The Red Hot Blues Sisters, Big Daddy and the Blue Notes, and The Smokehouse Blues Band. Local favorites Gary Yeoman, VOODOO Church and Triple Shot will also be performing.
This is a family friendly event. The arts and crafts fair has been expanded to include booths in the park along Third and Fourth avenues. A kids fair in the city park will have music, games, food and fun.

J.A. Jance book signing at Hastings
Hastings Entertainment will be hosting best-selling mystery writer J.A. Jance for a book signing event at its Coeur d'Alene store at 101 Best Ave., at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5.
Jance recently released her newest J.P. Beaumont mystery "Betrayal of Trust." This newest case finds Seattle investigator J. P. Beaumont investigating a dark and deadly conspiracy that reaches deep into the halls of state government.
