PROP fundraising breakfast today

COEUR d'ALENE - Lorena Freund, the founder of Parents Reaching out to Parents is hoping the community will turn out today to help support local families who have children or adults living with disabilities.
PROP is hosting its first fundraiser breakfast today at Applebee's, at 280 W. Hanley Ave., in Coeur d'Alene. The event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. and tickets cost $7. Tickets will be available at the door. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice. Proceeds from today's event will go toward PROP.
Freund said PROP is hoping to raise about $800 to help with administrative services and financial assistance for parents who need it.
Freund came up with the idea of creating PROP in memory of her 5-year-old daughter, Molly, who passed away in 1984 after living with a rare genetic disorder.
She said this program became her mission and passion in an attempt to help other families.
"Molly was a total joy to me when she was here," Freund said. "PROP, I think can help parents develop to learn to find joy in their lives."
Each Wednesday PROP offers a support group from noon to 2 p.m. at the Harding Center, at 411 N. 15th St. in Coeur d'Alene. The meeting is informal and includes lunch and on-site child care.
Freund said the weekly support group is one of the most successful parts of PROP's services because of the emotional support the group shares.
"This is my mission in life," Freund said. "I may not be able to relate to every parent's story. I have my experiences and that helps to put everything into perspective."
PROP is a nonprofit organization that provides support for families that have children or adults living with disabilities. It incorporated in 1984 and serves the five North Idaho counties.
