Rowe and Birky named all-state

Several Columbia Falls softball players have received all-conference and all-state recognition.

Junior pitcher Shaun Rowe and second baseman Niki Birky were named all-state. Rowe and Birky were also named first team all conference.

Other Wildkat players included junior outfielder Madison Sandefer, first team all conference; junior catcher Erika Nelson, second team all-conference; junior outfielder Jordan LeFebvre, second team all conference; sophomore third baseman Kathrin Jetty, second team all-conference; and senior Renae Nelson, second team all-conference.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
