now open for public play
SANDPOINT - The Idaho Club announced this week that its Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is open for public play for the 2011 golf season.
Starting times may be reserved by calling the golf shop at 265-2345, and are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tee times are required and players should call for reservations in advance.
The par-71, 7,089-yard Idaho Club is located eight miles east of Sandpoint on Highway 200.
The rate is $125 per round, including the use of a golf cart and the practice facility before play. A twilight rate (after 2 p.m.) is available for $80 per round. Residents of Bonner County will receive a $15 discount off of both of the above rates for the 2011 season.
The clubhouse is located in one of the lodge homes, where lunch, beverages and a variety of snacks are available. Lunches are served Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Moscow High grad
qualifies for U.S. Open
BREMERTON, Wash. - University of Washington golfer Chris Williams qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open June 16-19 Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., by placing in the top four at a sectional qualifier earlier this week.
Williams, a junior who starred at Moscow High, was a first team all-Pac 10 player, carded rounds of 2-under par 70 and 4-under par 68 to be the low qualifier with a six-under 138 at Gold Mountain Golf Club, where the sectional tournament was held.
Canadian Tour players Wes Heffernan, Adam Hadwin and John Ellis also qualified.
West Coast Conference, ESPN agree to 8-year extension
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference and ESPN announced an eight-year contract extension that will make the ESPN networks the conference's men's basketball national television home through the 2018-19 school year.
According to terms of the agreement, the West Coast Conference will receive a minimum of 48 annual men's basketball appearances on the ESPN networks from the 2011-12 through 2018-19 seasons. The 48 annual appearances include conference games and home non-conference games that are televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.
The agreement will also feature expanded coverage of the West Coast Conference basketball tournaments. In addition to continuing coverage of the men's basketball championship game on ESPN and semifinals on ESPN2, both quarterfinal games will be televised live on ESPNU beginning in 2012.
