COEUR d'ALENE - Pete Hoffman drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and later scored in the first game and Joe Roletto hit a three-run double in the third inning of the second game as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen swept a nonleague doubleheader with the Spokane Blue Devils 5-3 and 5-2 on Thursday at McEuen Field.

Chad Nyquist had two hits in the first game for Coeur d'Alene.

"It was a very fast game," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "It was nice to see us put together a little rally in the sixth."

The teams played both games with wood bats in preparation for upcoming tournaments.

"Using the wood bats makes it a different game," said Duman, whose Lumbermen have won 11 straight, all coming since June 3. "We were really tired, so it was kind of nice to play some quick games, but when our players stepped on the field, they were ready to play."

Matt Cade pitched a complete game for Coeur d'Alene (13-3) in the second game.

"Matt got into a little bit of trouble in the fourth inning," Duman said. "Other than that, he was pretty much in control and Roletto had a timely hit again."

Coeur d'Alene hosts the Spokane Northstars on Tuesday.
