The following Columbia Falls High School student-athletes were named Academic All State Award winners by the Montana Coaches Association for the fourth quarter. Students must earn a varsity letter and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA:

Boys tennis - Caleb Bauman, Parker Johnson, Brian Marcille, James Jurva, Miroslav Zvyagelskiy, Isaac Morden and Jordan Mueller

Girls tennis - Andrea Getts, Casey Bauer, Tiffany Borland, McKenna Emmerich, Natalie Law, Gabrielle Stenger, Alexandra Bartkoski and Dominika Geratova

Track and field - Josiah Osborne, Alex Presnell, Justin Whitman, Allison Lampman, Julia Burgi, Katy Darling, Tayler Gress, LE McDaniel, Jinise Osborne, Cortney White, Jacob Babcock, Austin Barth, Derrick Williams, Cole Jones and Nathan Thompson

Softball - Madison Sandefer, Nikolette Birky, Renae Nelson and Jessica Owens.

Bill requires verification before issuing driver's licenses

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
