Loggers split with Mavs; Lakers whip Rangers

LIBBY - Chris Herbig ripped a 3-run homer in a 4-run third inning to power Libby to a 5-4 Class A American Legion baseball victory over Missoula's Mavs in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
It was Herbig's only hit in the game.
Libby added another run in the fifth.
Missoula rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the nightcap to claim a 7-5 victory.
Missoula outhit Libby (18-13 overall) in both games, 9-5 and 12-9. The Loggers, however, played a much cleaner game in the field with just three errors compared to Missoula's seven for two games.

EUREKA - Mike Bare belted a grand slam home run to dead center field in the seventh inning and Robert Simmons drilled a 2-run home run to left in the fourth inning as Kalispell rolled to a conference win over Kootenai Valley in Class A play.
Hank McLeod threw a 2-hitter, fanning 12 and issuing just one walk.
Kalispell (11-11 and 3-2) plays in the Ed Gallo Tournament today in Whitefish.
