Pirates have invaded Coeur d'Alene for another summer, and only one thing is on their mind: Finding the treasure.
Well, that and entertaining all the kids and adults on board.
"They are going to learn how to talk like a pirate, jig and sing like a pirate and fight like a pirate," director Jillian Kramer said. "It's a very interactive show and the kids are going to have a lot of fun with the actors."
Lake Coeur d'Alene Cruises is putting on the action-packed adventure that starts this Saturday and continues throughout the summer.
"It's really picking up where we left off from last year and we have two returning characters, Mad Molly and Captain Jack," Kramer said. "At the end of last year's show they were married and so it's been a year, and we are back on their ship. We introduce two new characters, and they end up searching for treasure together."
Andrew Steiner, who will play one of the new characters, is excited to be a part of the Pirates of Coeur d'Alene.
"It honestly feels like a pirate ship, just doing it you get really stoked, and feel like a pirate," Steiner said. "It's a lot of fun, because you are actually out on the water. We have cannons, and it's just a good time."
This year's performance will feature pirate comedy for all ages, catchy sing-alongs and fast-paced sword fighting. The talented cast of actors encourages audience participation, and by the end of the adventure, the young passengers will depart the ship with a special gift.
Todd Jasmin, who plays Captain Calico Jack and wrote the script for this summer's installment, wanted to bring fans back and create a few more by bringing in new characters.
"We have made a lot of improvements to the show," he said.
Jasmin wanted to write a script that would appeal to everyone but mainly to children, since they are the bulk of the audience.
"It's definitely a family adventure and we want everyone to have fun," he said.
The Pirates of The Coeur d'Alene, launched in 2010, turned out to be a big hit with kids and parents alike, said Craig Brosenne, general manager of Hagadone Marine Group.
"Our family passengers really responded to all the action and adventure, with our live actors including the kids in the drama," Brosenne said. "It's a good time on the water for all ages."
The cruise adventure lasts 90 minutes and departs twice a day from June 18 to Sept. 5.
Cruise times are 1-2:30 p.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. Tickets are $30.75 for adults, $20.75 for children ages 6 to 12, and free admission for children 5 and younger. Pirates of The Coeur d'Alene also offers kids birthday packages and charter cruises.
All cruises depart from Independence Point, between Coeur d'Alene City Park and The Coeur d'Alene Resort.
