Central work starts Sunday night

Pavement on the 200 block of Central Avenue will be replaced on Sunday June 19 at 10 p.m. Work is slated to be finished by Wednesday, June 22 at midnight. The block will be closed day and night to vehicle traffic during the three days of work. Sidewalks will be open to pedestrians.
Recent inspections and asphalt testing have shown the asphalt placed during the spring of 2010 is failing and needs to be replaced. The pavement will be replaced as a warranty item at no additional cost to the city.
The asphalt has a high oil content, causing the material to deform easily, City Manager Chuck Stearns said. This can already be seen with rutting and shoving happening where tires rest at the front of each parking space.
