ST. IGNATIUS - After the craziness of graduation and other spring activities, the Mission Valley Rockies saw their first action in a couple of weeks.
Against the defending Senior Babe Ruth champions, the Missoula Pioneers, the Rockies fell 15-4.
"We've been out of it so long that we weren't quite prepared," manager Alan Anderson said.
However, much like in the early part of the season, the Rockies came on with their bats late in the game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
"We were hitting the ball right to somebody," Anderson said. "Towards the end we were finally getting some things running."
Dakotah Matt was the ideal leadoff guy, going 3-for-4 in the game while Jeremiah Crawford had a double with two RBIs. Newcomer Jacen Peterson, fresh off of Charlo's state champion track team, went 2-for-2 with an RBI as well and had a nice double play on defense.
"Their catcher is outstanding, there's no runs you get off passed balls," Anderson said. "Every run you get is earned."
Mission Valley shut out Missoula in the first inning, allowed 15 runs in the next three, then shut down the Pioneers for the final three innings.
