Prairie wins at Missoula tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. - Cody Vandever struck out 10 in eight-plus innings and Tyler Burnett went 3 for 4 as the Cardinals defeated the host Missoula Mavericks 6-2 on Friday at the Missoula Mavericks Memorial Tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

On Thursday, Prairie opened the tourney with a 19-7 loss to the Spokane Bandits.

No report was received from the Cardinals, who are scheduled to play the Great Falls Chargers today at 3 p.m. PDT.

Lums drop two

at Bandit Bash

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Coeur d'Alene lost 10-0 to the host Kennewick Bandits and 15-4 to the Spokane Heat on Friday to drop to 0-3 in pool play at the Bandit Bash American Legion baseball tournament.

In the first game, Conner O'Neil pitched a three-hit shutout for Kennewick. Coeur d'Alene walked eight, and hit into three double plays.

Against the Heat, Pete Hoffman drove in all four Coeur d'Alene runs, three on a fifth-inning triple.

Coeur d'Alene (15-6) plays twice today to wrap up tourney play.

Loggers split

to open tourney

SPOKANE - Mark Nuttleman pitched his third straight shutout as the Coeur d'Alene Loggers class A team beat Central Valley 10-0 at West Valley in their first game Friday at the River City Shootout.

Nuttleman struck out four in a five-hitter for the Loggers. Sean Sutton went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Kolby DeHaas went 3 for 4, and D.J. Sutton also drove in two runs.

In the second game, two throwing errors in the bottom of the seventh inning helped host West Valley score the winning run in an 11-10 victory over Coeur d'Alene. Sean Sutton, Lief Krapas and Brett Robbins each had two RBIs for the Loggers.

Coeur d'Alene (6-7) plays Poulsbo (Wash.) today at 4 p.m. to conclude play in the West Valley pod. The Loggers will face a team from the University High pod on Sunday in a placing game.

RATHDRUM - J.D. Page pitched a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and two walks as the Whitecaps defeated East Valley at Lakeland High.

Bayview (8-2) scored all four runs in the first inning on four walks, a hit batter, a single and a double and a fielder's choice.

Bayview is trying to pick up some games next weekend. The Whitecaps' next scheduled game is June 27, a doubleheader vs. Lewis and Clark at Hart Field in Spokane.

CHENEY, Wash. - J.J. Winger struck out seven and scattered four hits for the Lakers under-16 team in their victory over the Cheney Coast Guard in their first game of the Cheney tournament.

Today, the Lakers (4-3) play Mt. Spokane No. 2 at 9 a.m. and University at noon, both at Cheney High.

COEUR d'ALENE - Easton Whiteside and Logan Brastrup each drove in three runs as the Coeur d'Alene Lumberjacks U-16 team beat West Valley in Spokane class A American Legion league play at Ted Page Field.

Jake McKnight and Sean White each went 3 for 4 for the Lumberjacks (9-3, 6-1 league). Brastrup struck out five in four shutout innings.

Coeur d'Alene plays a doubleheader vs. Lewis and Clark today at 1 p.m. at Hart Field in Spokane.
