SPOKANE - The Coeur d'Alene Loggers nearly capped a long day with a tournament title, but lost to Lewis and Clark 15-12 in the championship game of the River City Shootout at University High.

The Loggers beat Poulsbo (Wash.) 7-4 to finish second in their pool at West Valley High. Then they beat host University, which won the pool on its diamond, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Then Coeur d'Alene was one out away (with the bases empty) from victory in the top of the seventh in the title game, but Lewis and Clark scored once to tie it and three times in the eighth to win it.

"I'm tired now, and I didn't even play, so I can't imagine what the players are going through," Loggers coach Tom Barlow said. "We battled all day, we just ran out of gas in the end. But overall, it was a pretty good tournament."

Brett Robbins went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Coeur d'Alene vs. Poulsbo, and Sean Sutton struck out five and took a shutout into the seventh.

Against University, Zach Osmanski struck out four in a complete-game five hitter, and D.J. Sutton hit an RBI single and an RBI double.

In the title game, Robbins had an RBI triple in the third inning and a two-run single in the fourth.

The Loggers (8-8) play host to Silver Valley today in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at McEuen Field.
