COEUR d'ALENE - Jason Pattis struck out six in a complete-game win as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen defeated Reality Sports of Tacoma 6-3 after falling in their opener 9-2 to the Spokane Blue Devils in the Best of the Northwest tournament on Wednesday at McEuen Field.

Colin Comack and Joe Roletto had doubles in the fifth inning, with Roletto driving in Comack and Pattis bringing in Roletto with an RBI single for Coeur d'Alene.

"We were a little out of sync," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "We got ahead of a lot of batters, but they took advantage."

Pete Hoffman hit a solo home run in the third inning against Reality Sports as the Lumbermen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first.

"Jason was pretty much in control of the game on the mound," Duman said. "It was nice to see us bounce back after the opening game. We came out and swung the bats and played pretty fundamental baseball."

Coeur d'Alene (18-9) faces the Northwest Blaze tonight at 7 at McEuen Field.

Box scores for both games were unavailable.

at Best of the Northwest

SPOKANE - Derek Tymesen hit a two-run double in the sixth inning as the Prairie Cardinals scored seven runs in the sixth inning to tie the Spokane Cannons 7-7 in their opening game of the Best of the Northwest tournament at University High.

Darnell Metcalf had two hits, including an RBI single for Prairie against the Cannons.

"We had 15 strikeouts as a team, but we walked eight guys," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "They had seven runs on five hits, but most of their runs came off walks. We kept them off balance and kept battling, but it wasn't a well-played game by us."

In the second game, Coeur d'Alene High's Danny Lockhert had an RBI single and pitched a complete game for Spokane in a 7-1 win over Prairie.

"They played really good defense," Frank said. "We put the ball in play, but they were making plays. It's hard to win when you're trying to find the zone."

Prairie (8-11-1) will face the Twin City Titans today at 5:30 p.m. at University High.
