Vi Smothermon was born in Porterville, Calif., on April 4, 1936. She passed away at home surrounded by family on June 22, 2011, after a long illness.

Vi was always a person who loved to laugh and have a good time. She was well known for her infectious laugh and when she laughed you couldn't help laughing too. She loved being active and had a hard time sitting still. Growing up in Porterville she was active in playing softball, loved the water, was a good swimmer, water skier and also a good bowler. She had a passion for playing cards and taught many games to many people.

She married the love of her life, Fred Smothermon, who she met in the fourth grade. She was the mother of two children, Brad Smothermon and Cheryl Smothermon Freeman. They raised their family in Santa Ana, Calif., and enjoyed camping many weekends with friends and family.

After raising their children, they moved back to their childhood home of Porterville. She enjoyed her life with Fred for many years fishing, boating and could never pass up a card game with her many Porterville friends that always had a place in her heart even after moving to Hayden. They moved to Hayden in 1993 where they built a home on the Avondale Golf Course to enjoy the last chapter of her life. She learned to play golf and had so much fun playing with both the Nine and Eighteen Hole ladies clubs. As her illness progressed, she would rather play cards then eat, her family always said. She enjoyed playing with both her family and her loyal friends.

She was the daughter of Clyde and Irene Lamb Bilyeu of Porterville who proceeded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Smothermon of Hayden; sister Edyth Lamb of Porterville; son Brad and his girlfriend Michele of Hayden; daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Kenny Freeman of Harrison; and granddaughter Shannon Smothermon of Riverside, Calif. She had many nieces and nephews who were important to her and who loved being with their Aunt Vi.

Per Vi's request there will not be any memorial services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice in memory of Vi.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice and her loyal friends who visited her during her illness for making her final journey easier. We will miss her very much!
