Lums, Prairie fall at tourney

COEUR d'ALENE - The host Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen committed two of their three errors in the sixth inning as they fell to the Northwest Blaze of Gig Harbor, Wash., 9-4 in a McEuen Division pool play game in the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tournament at McEuen Field on Thursday night.
"We got into a little bit of trouble in the sixth inning, they got some runners on and scored some runs," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. 'They were a good, fast team. It was an exciting game all the way until the sixth inning."
Kaleb DeHaas went 3 for 4 and Ransom Storm struck out five for Coeur d'Alene (18-10), which faces Wilkinson of Seattle today at 2:30 p.m. to close out pool play at McEuen Field. Coeur d'Alene is 1-2 in pool play.
"This was one of those games that are fun to be in," Duman said. "We're still in the learning stage and know what we need to fix."

SPOKANE - Twin City catcher Jarrod Turner had three hits and five RBIs as the Titans, with players from Kamiakin and Richland (Wash.) high schools, defeated the Prairie Cardinals in a University Division pool play game in the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tournament at University High.
"We did a lot better job of throwing strikes tonight, but they just hit the ball into places we weren't," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We didn't play that bad, but they were hitting the ball really well."
Tyler Burnett had a two-run single in the fourth inning for Prairie (8-12-1), which faces Toyota Baseball at 12:30 p.m. at U-Hi to conclude pool play. Prairie is 0-2-1 in pool play.

SPOKANE - Austin Lake struck out nine as the Coeur d'Alene Lakers defeated Central Valley in a class A Spokane League game at Central Valley High.
Kanyon Cooke had three hits and three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene (7-3, 3-2), which hosts Colville in a doubleheader Sunday at Lake City High starting at 1 p.m.
