Fishing the Icicle River is always a great experience. I can't think of a prettier river to float this time of year. Everything is green, except the snowcapped peaks that loom over you as you make your way down the river. The fact that the fishing is darn good adds to the experience.

I jumped on board Shane Magnuson's, Upper Columbia Guide Service, boat the other day with my video camera, to capture the action for one of my Fishing TV Shows. As you can imagine, the river is running high with some color, but Magnuson likes it that way. The two clients that he had that day hooked six spring salmon and they managed to land three of them. The fast water makes battling these bright spring salmon a real work out. There are some snags in some of the holes that the fish like, and the fish seem to know right where they and will dive down and wrap around them before you can do anything about it. According to Magnuson, at the rate the fish are arriving to the Icicle combing with the high water, this could mean good fishing for the springers late into July this season.

Fishing Magician - New and exciting fisheries

There are a couple of new and very exciting fisheries pending here in Central Washington. Starting as early as August 1st, there could be an opening of fishing for triploid rainbow trout above Brewster. As most anglers know, there was a huge release of triploids from the net pens on Rufus Woods Reservoir, and combined with the spill of water over Chief Joseph Dam a significant number of them are showing up in the Columbia below Bridgeport.

Fishing Magician Report - June 22nd

I've made a couple more trips up to Rufus Woods and have had good fishing both times. Not the red hot fishing I had at the net pens on my first trip, but my fishing buddies and I came home with a cooler so heavy it was hard to lift.

Fishing Magician: Big summer runs

Summer run salmon are pouring up the Columbia River, and although heavy flows continue to hamper angler's efforts, there are both Chinook and sockeye being caught. Many are still making it to the big eddy below Wanapum Dam, their destination, but fishing in the Wenatchee area is very much worth a try.
