Three Spokane Chiefs heard their names called Saturday in the NHL Entry Draft as Brenden Kichton was selected by the New York Islanders and Dominik Uher by the Pittsburgh Penguins, both in the fifth round, and Darren Kramer went to the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round.

Kichton enjoyed a breakout season this past year as he tied for the league lead in scoring among defensmen with 23 goals and 81 points, a 62-point increase from the year before. He was named the Chiefs' John "Hitman" Hern Defenseman of the Year and a Western Hockey League second-team All-Star. Originally a fourth round pick by the Chiefs in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft, Kichton has played 191 games in a Spokane sweater.

In his second season as a Chief, Uher recorded 21 goals and 39 assists in 65 games. The native of Ostvava, Czech Republic, was Spokane's first-round selection in the 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. Uher registered 15 multiple-point games, including a career high four points - three goals and an assist - in a 10-5 win over Kamloops on Dec. 11, 2010. He also had a 10-game point scoring streak from Jan. 7-23 where he had six goals and 17 points.

"The family was watching the TV downstairs but I couldn't take the pressure," Kramer said. "I went upstairs to the computer and it was a little behind so I learned I was drafted by everyone screaming downstairs, but I needed to believe it with my own eyes. "

Kramer is the second Chief in three seasons to be selected by the Senators, joining defenseman Jared Cowen, who was their first-round pick in 2009.

"It is amazing to go to Ottawa, and to be there with our captain Jared Cowen. I'm really looking forward to joining their organization," Kramer said.

Kramer, who started the season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with Peace River, was listed by Spokane last October and made an immediate impact by scoring a goal in his first game, a win at Kamloops. He also registered the first five of his league- leading 306 penalty minutes.

"I didn't know where I was going to play at the start of my 19-year-old year. I can't thank the Chiefs' organization enough and it worked out for the best for both of us," Kramer said. "This is a great accomplishment and all the hard work has paid off at the end of the day."

Kramer had seven goals and 14 points in 68 regular season games and recorded an additional five goals and eight points in 17 playoff games. Kramer will get his first experience with the Senators when he flies out Monday for their prospects camp.

"I have been in the gym pretty consistently ever since I got back from holidays in case this opportunity presented itself," Kramer said.

One day after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins from the WHL's Red Deer Rebels went No. 1 overall, a pair of WHL players were selected with the first two picks of the second round.

Defenseman David Musil of the Vancouver Giants went to the Edmonton Oilers with the 31st overall pick and he was followed by Portland Winterhawks right wing Ty Rattie, who was chosen by the St. Louis Blues. Portland defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon went to the Calgary Flames 25 picks later.
