A more central location with a drive-through and self-service center with Internet access have prompted Horizon Credit Union to its new 1,700- square-foot location in Suite 10 of River City Center at 920 N. Highway 41, Post Falls. The move from its present location (now for sale) at 565 Vest St. (between Seltice Way and Interstate 90) should be in mid-July.
Serving members in eight North Idaho counties and Washington State, Horizon began in 1947 as Kaiser Federal Credit Union in Spokane. Now as Horizon, it has 16 branches and more than 39,000 members. It offers savings and checking accounts, money markets, certificates of deposit, IRAs, youth accounts, credit cards, many types of loans, electronic services, investments, financial education programs and community projects.

New family physician downtown

With more than 20 years practicing medicine, he has degrees from Fresno State University and George Washington University. Here's this week's tidbits:
• Next time you're at the downtown Pita Pit eatery, check the wall map to see all the established and soon-to-open Pita Pit places. With its national headquarters and training center here in Coeur d'Alene, the company has more than 330 stores. (I like their Philly choice).
• Trader Joe's? Everyone still asks when they're coming here. All I know is they'll open this summer on Spokane's South Hill. A few years ago their corporate office spokesperson told me they usually "locate" three or four stores at a time. Back then they were thinking of Spokane, Coeur d'Alene and Missoula. They must still be thinking.
• When you see "[sic]" in writing, it means this is how it's printed in the original source. In Latin, it means "such as."
• Forty years ago today my bride Mary and I recited our wedding vows on a mountain ridge above Flathead Lake, Mont. I was a journalist with the Coast Guard then and wrote sports for suburban Chicago papers. Then we had nine years in Seattle. We came here the week the mountain (St. Helens) blew in May 1980. Forty years, three children and two and two-thirds grandchildren later, we made some good choices.
