Katherine Irene Joki, 93

Katherine Irene Joki, 93, passed on peacefully Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Life Care Center of Coeur d'Alene. She was born in Kellogg's Wardner Hospital on May 18, 1918, the eldest child of four born to Clay and Hazel Henley.

Katherine, known as Kate to all her family and friends, was educated in the Kellogg schools and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1936. In 1938, she married Alex Joki in Wallace and the couple settled in Kingston. She worked as a clerical secretary for the U.S. Forest Service, Coeur d'Alene District, documenting and keeping historical records, retiring in 1982 after 20 years. They raised four sons, all of whom survive her: Rodney, residing in Coeur d'Alene; Russell in Meridian; Grant in Boise; Glenn in Peoria, Ariz. In addition to her four sons, she is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Alex; her brother, Clayton Henley; and her sister, Dorothy Brainard. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Wood.

A memorial and reception is being held at 11 a.m. Friday July 8, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine's name be made to the Kootenai Humane Society.
