Plains schools will be participating in “I Love to Read Month,” which encourages students in elementary through high school to consistently read books. 

There will be class parties held on Wednesday and Thursday and a Scholastic book fair on Thursday and Friday at the Plains High School library. 

According to Jean Nemeth, a title one teacher who focuses in math and reading, the theme of this year’s event is a carnival.  Nemeth said the top reader in each class from Kindergarten through seventh grade will be able to throw a whipped cream pie at the face of administration and faculty members who have volunteered to take a pie in the face for the event. 

“We’ll see how the Kindergartner’s do at throwing the pies,” said Nemeth. Students will enjoy possible visits from clowns, caramel corn and apples, she said.

There will be over 1,000 books to choose from at the book fairs on Thursday and Friday which is open to the public, although it is geared towards elementary school aged children said Nemeth.  On Friday, the Masons of Ponemah Lodge will also be donating one bike for third through sixth grades.  Every time a student finishes reading a book, they will get one entry in the bike contest.
