BUTTE - Arlee may have lost two games in the divisional tournament but with a young team, there's a good chance they'll be back the next few years.
"We needed to be there to get the experience," Richard Bachmeier said. "I think the team got a lot while they were here."
After winning their challenge game against Hot Springs in the 14-C district tournament two weeks ago in Ronan, the Scarlets were catapulted to the divisional tournament, where they faced Harrison in the first round last Thursday.
Harrison scored 20 points in the first three quarters en route to a 70-32 victory behind 23 points by Taylor Statton.
Kristyn Adams led the Scarlets with 11 points and Mahalia Hendren added seven.
In their second game against Twin Bridges on Friday, Bachmeier had four sophomores and a freshman starting.
"Now they see what they've got to do," Bachmeier said.
Twin Bridges got out to another quick start and had a 42-20 lead at halftime. They scored 28 in the second half for a 64-28 victory.
Adams once again led the team with nine points, while Hendren had seven.
"I was really proud of them as a team," Bachmeier said. "The community is starting to come around and get behind us. The community is proud of them and that's good."
Arlee finished the season 7-14 and saw a lot of growth throughout in a tough district that also included Mission Valley foe, Charlo.
"I think we gained a lot of experience and we got better as the season came on," Bachmeier said.
The Scarlets finished the regular season in third place of the 14-C district, beating Noxon in the final game to beat out Hot Springs for that seed. Then they turned around and defeated the Lady Red Devils in the first round of the district tournament.
"We surprised some people when we beat Noxon," Bachmeier said.
Arlee also had to win a challenge game against Hot Springs, a team that had beaten them a few weeks before. It was another important win for the Scarlets who are looking towards next season.
"Now we just got to get down to work," Bachmeier said.
