PABLO - The Lady Bulldogs ran into some tough teams in the Western B Divisionals at SKC in Pablo last week, and after giving up a fight, was put out of the postseason.

Mission still played hard defensively and made things a grind for the other team regardless of the outcome.

Free throws were key as Mission overcame some early foul trouble and a low shooting percentage to defeat Superior 39-29 on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Western B divisionals.

The Lady Cats didn't go easy though, and put up a strong defensive fight against Mission. Both teams were locked in a

10-10 tie early in the second quarter before Mission went on a 10-3 run to finish out the first half for a 20-13 lead. It was sparked largely on two buckets by Bryanna Steele, who was roaming around the basket all afternoon.

Superior would pull within three to start the third quarter, but Mission went on an 8-3 run to grab a 28-22 lead going into the fourth. Mission was able to get six points from field goals out of the chute in the fourth, and hit their free throws in the end to win it.

Top Mission scorer Kyla Mitchell scored eight of her 14 points in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs got 13 points from free throws. That advanced them to the Thursday night semifinal game against Loyola Sacred Heart. Mission gave them a battle and trailed

only 21-13 at halftime.

However, the Lakers really turned up the defense and

outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-9 in the second half en route to a 39-22 victory.

Mitchell was still the catalyst for Mission on offense, scoring 12 points in the loss.

In their loser-out game against Valley Christian on Friday, the Lady Bulldogs again played their opponent with grit. At halftime they were within striking distance, trailing 27-19 at halftime.

Valley Christian then came out and went on a 14-4 run in the third quarter to pull away for the 50-34 victory.

Sophomore Stephanie Lewandowski led the team with nine points and Mitchell added eight.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 16-7 record and a second-place finish in both the regular season standings of District 14-C and also in the district tournament.
