MOSES LAKE - Operation Linus is a volunteer sewing program to create quilts for children recovering from traumatic events.

The program is named after the blanket-toting character in the Peanuts comic strip.

Volunteers in Moses Lake and Ephrata are gathering to sew quilts for children in need.

"The quilts go to domestic violence centers, foster care programs. This year, we just started sending the quilts to maternity support centers," organizer Belinda Chambers said. "They go to the Crossroads Resource Center in Moses Lake."

Sewing kits are provided, but participants can bring their own if they prefer, she added.

The first gathering is on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Columbia Basin Quilt Works, located at 122 W. Third Ave.

A second gathering is in Ephrata on March 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the American Legion, located at 276 Eighth Ave. N,W,

A third gathering is March 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Ephrata Fabric Patch, located at 220 10th Ave S.W.
