Lady Loggers season ends with tough games
The Western News | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 14 years AGO
The Libby High School girls basketball
team had a rough time last week in the Class A State Tournament at
the Belgrade Special Events Center.
The Lady Loggers lost twice by
considerable margins — 65-27 on Thursday against Butte Central and
51-13 on Friday against Billings Central.
Coach Jim May said Libby faced probably
the two best teams in the tournament.
“Both teams were full of very skilled
basketball players and they were very athletic,” he said. “We
struggled getting any offense going in both games. We battled at
the beginning of both games defensively, but really had a tough
time getting into our sets offensively.”
“It was still a great experience and
hopefully our young players understand what their off season goals
are now,” May added.
In Libby’s tournament opener, Butte
Central rolled to a 21-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and
33-15 by halftime. The Lady Loggers managed no more than eight
points in any quarter.
Jaime Gilden, Alysha Martin and Kim
Tangen each scored six points to lead Libby’s offense.
Quinn Peoples tossed in 22 points for
the Maroons, which entered state following a 16-3 regular season.
Kacie McKeon scored 14 points – 10 of those in the first quarter –
with a trio of three-pointers.
On Friday, the Lady Loggers suffered a
tough loss to Billings Central. Libby was scoreless in the second
quarter on the way to a Billings Central lead of 30-6 at
halftime.
Gilden lead the Loggers with nine
points and five rebounds.
Libby’s season ends with an overall
record of 9-13.
