Representative's words
Rep. Dan Salomon | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 10 months AGO
It was great to be home last weekend during our mid-session break. I saw lots of my constituents at the question and answer session in Polson last Monday. Great points were brought out about workman’s comp reform, tort reform on some law suits and defensive medicine reform.
There was talk of how we’re working to coordinate the duplication of the MEPA laws. We are waiting for Washington to hopefully make a decision on de-listing of wolves so that Montana can utilize a plan to control them. The best plan of course is to treat the wolf as the predator that it is.
Education may be affected by a bill from Sen. Llew Jones of Conrad in order to establish structurally sound funding. Also higher ed funding is going through the appropriation process. Hopefully House Bill 2 – Legislature’s comprehensive two-year budgeting bill – will be coming out of Appropriations Committee soon so we can see where we are in terms of all the budget areas.
Want to thank all the Charlo High School students and Mr. Thompson for coming on Monday to observe us here at the Capitol. All of the Lake County delegation really enjoyed them. You can reach me at: dansalomon12@gmail.com

Commission member rebuts op-ed on CSKT water compact
The following opinion piece is a rebuttal to a recent column written by Sen. Verdell Jackson, R-Kalispell, about the proposed Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes water compact.
Guest column: Sorry, Mr. Jackson
Sen. Verdell Jackson is mistaken in arguing (in a recently published opinion piece) that the proposed CSKT water compact violates the US and Montana constitutions by taking water rights from individual irrigators served by the Flathead Indian Irrigation Project and transferring them to the Tribes.

The end is starting to come into sight here in Helena as the budget will be back from conference committee and ready to pass on to the Governer this week. He will not like it as is. It will be balanced to the revenue projections and they are still going down each month. The positioning with vetoes, amenditory veto and all the conference committees means that things can change every hour.
