Vandals ousted at tourney

Tahnee Robinson scored a career-high 35 points and had six rebounds to lead Nevada over Idaho 75-61 in a Western Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal game Thursday night at Las Vegas.

Robinson was 12 of 19 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, for the fourth-seeded Wolf Pack (21-9), who face No. 1 seed Louisiana Tech in the semifinals today. Kayla Williams added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Kate Kevorken had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Yinka Olorunnife led No. 5-seeded Idaho (15-15) with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

The Vandals led 36-29 at halftime. But Robinson scored 22 second-half points, including a runner in the lane with 6:39 remaining that put Nevada up for good, 59-57.

Idaho had only two players play off the bench in the game, as Derisa Taleni, who had started all 29 games prior to Thursday, was hospitalized with a kidney infection shortly before the game.

BIG SKY

Eastern Washington 77, Montana State 68: At Portland, Ore., Tatjana Sparavalo scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Eastern Washington past Montana State (17-14) in the opening round of the Big Sky Conference tournament.

Brianne Ryan and Chene Cooper each added 15 points for the Eagles (13-17), who led 29-28 going into the break.

The Eagles play Portland State in the semifinals tonight.

Montana 66, Idaho State 53: At Portland, Ore., Stephanie Stender scored 18 points and Montana beat Idaho State (18-12) in the opening round of the Big Sky Conference tournament.

Former Lake City High standout Katie Baker had 12 points and five rebounds for Montana (16-14), which plays Northern Colorado in the semifinals tonight.
