PREP GIRLS SOFTBALL: OTHELLO HUSKIES (2A)
Alan Dale | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 8 months AGO
Head coach: Rudy Ochoa (16th year)
2010 overall record: 20-5
2011 league record: 17-2
2011 postseason: Third at districts, state qualifier
Number of returnees: Five
ROSTER: (not made available)
OUTLOOK: A state trip which saw the Lady Huskies go 1-2 before being sent home to Adams County was nice, but coach Rudy Ochoa always expects more from his top-notch program.
Five starters are back from a 20-5 team that finished second in the CWAC.
"We should have an excellent infield all are returners from last year," Ochoa said. "Our goal is to make it back to state again and place as high as we can."
Ochoa will lean on pitcher Brenda Rodriguez who also toils at third base, Kim Bullis who played a lot as a freshman Huskie in 2010 and pitcher Daily Salgado who also provided help at shortstop and third base.
Joahanna Quesados will man second base while Miranda Martinez anchors first base and may play more at catcher.
Othello will need big contributions from this quintet in order to push for a league top-spot.
"As far as the league goes Ellensburg, Othello Selah, East Valley, and Prosser look to be very competitive," Ochoa. "Anyone of these teams could take it this year."
