After an old board was disbanded last year, a new Boundary County Parks and Recreation has been formed just in time for youth sports.

Boundary County Commissioners, last year, disbanded a non-functioning  parks and recreation board and gave duties to the fair board.  The added responsibilities  proved to be too much for one board to handle, so the fair board went to commissioners asking to help create a new parks and recreation board.

The new board members are Pam Copeland, chairwoman, Angela Hittle, vice chairwoman, Tim Dougherty, David Brinkman, Lisa Carle, Ron Tompkins and Brandon Glaza.

“We have a board who can dedicate their time to parks and recreation,” said Copeland.

The board will be responsible for improvements of the county's parks and tennis courts, softball and soccer fields.

They are also in charge of youth sports including T-ball, youth tennis, the Hershey track meet, flag football and soccer. 

The board will also hire a youth sports director who will be responsible for organizing and administrating activities for children ages 4-14.

During the past year Hittle was the youth sports director and did not have the support of a board and brings with her the experience of having managed youth sports in Boundary County. 

Copeland expects the Boundary County Parks and Recreation programs will be efficient and organized with the new board that has been created.
