EPHRATA - East Valley escaped Ephrata on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of the Ephrata Tigers in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) play.
East Valley used a strong start to win the opener 5-3 and then a flourish at the finish in the nightcap to complete the two-win day with a 12-9 victory.
"We gave two wins away," Ephrata head coach Jason Laughen said.
East Valley led 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth of the opener before the Tigers (1-2, 0-2) cut the gap to 3-1 but then saw their guests bump the lead back up to 5-1 and held on for the win.
Josh Snider went 2-or-3 with an RBI for the Tigers and pitched six innings while allowing seven hits and struck out four.
In the second game, Ephrata answered East Valley six first inning runs with seven of their own and even led 9-6 after two innings before East Valley came back to score the game's last six runs to finish off their undefeated day.
Marco Salas, Dusty Baughman, Grant Kallstrom, and Snider all had two hits for Ephrata, while Bryce Beavers hit a two-run homerun.
