ROYAL CITY - Two one-run decisions were shared amongst the Royal Knights and visiting LaSalle on Saturday.
Royal (1-2) won the opener 10-9 before dropping a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.
The Knights led 5-1 early in the opener but then fell behind 9-7 in the sixth inning before a late rally that concluded with Zach Christensen singling in Brady Dixon with the winning Royal run.
Reed Lefler hit a homerun in the fourth innings while Danny Vermeer and Christensen each finished 2-for-5 with two RBI.
In the second game, LaSalle led 3-0 early and held on as Dixon hit a solo homerun in the sixth inning and the Knights knocked home another run in the seventh before running out of outs.
The Knights had runners on first and second bases with one out before a deep line drive was caught and the lead runner was doubled out.
Anthony Westcott was Royal's top hitter in the nightcap, going 2-for-3.
"Overall I was very happy with the effort level the team showed throughout the day," Royal head coach Daren Christensen said. "They competed while being ahead and also from behind which shows great character."
