Last Saturday, the Superior little guy wrestlers spent the day in Frenchtown at the second of three Inter Valley Tournaments. The wrestlers have one more qualifying tournament left before the state competition and so the short week season will soon be drawing to a close.

Crabb said that the season spends a lot of time introducing kids to the sport of wrestling in hopes that if they do decide to wrestle during high school they have an idea of how the sport works.

“We just want to teach them the basics,” Crabb said. “We’re basically sort of doing a lot of prepping. My main goal with the older kids is to get them prepared for high school. With the younger kids, I want to teach them a good stance and some simple moves so they’ll have that foundation.”

Crabb said that little guy wrestling is a lot different from high school wrestling. They don’t really keep results for most of the season until the qualifying tournaments come around during the first weekend of March. Of course, throughout the season, the coaches want the students to also enjoy themselves and have fun.

Several others lessons are also wrapped into the season. The sport promotes hard work and self-discipline. The coaches also hope that the sport teaches the kids to practice good sportsmanship and to learn that even when you lose that it’s an opportunity to learn to fix what went wrong

Next weekend, on March 26, the boys will wrestle in Missoula. Below are the results from this past weekend’s competition.

Alberton sends one to state

Twelve Alberton Panthers competed at divisional track over the past weekend, but only one ended up performing well enough in order to stamp a ticket to state. Jake Thompson will represent the Alberton Panthers at the state track meet this weekend in an event that Coach Rachel Clevenger said they weren't expecting. Thompson, who is a sophomore, took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-7.

St. Regis students get pleasant surprise

St. Regis students received a surprise this week after they finished taking their semester tests on Monday. Yearbooks are a creative outlet that commemorates an important time in your life. While making them is hard work, the result is a fun way to document life and hold onto good memories. On Monday, thanks to the support of businesses from around the county, last year’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen all received a free year book. The seniors of class 2010 also received a free book.
