COEUR d'ALENE - Do you look like a dog?
Worse yet, do you look like your dog?
If the answer is yes, cheer up: It could land you a prize.
"It's going to be a ton of fun," said Rondi Renaldo, Kootenai County Humane Society director, about today's entire Furr Fever Family Festival fundraiser, not just the part where judges will award the pooch owner whose twin is at the other end of his own leash. "I'm hoping that they win a prize at every single game they play."
Kids will have an opportunity to win loads of prizes. Carnival games, tweaked to a pet theme such as tossing beanbags through a cardboard dog's mouth, will let kids with good aim take home those treats.
The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. today at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds at Kathleen Avenue and Government Way. It's free to go, but game tickets cost a buck apiece. All proceeds go to the humane society.
Book walks, cake walks, hillbilly golf, ball tossing and fishing and kids contests will be other ways to land prizes.
Not inclined to play? No problem. Around 20 vendors, good grub included, will offer something for the less risky.
Pets are welcome too. And dogs are especially welcome if they look like their owners.
That's right, at 1:30 p.m. a pet/owner lookalike contest will get under way.
So which is it? Either you look like a canine or your canine looks like a human.
Smart money is on the former.
But hey, other contests like tallest, shortest, and best-costumed dog will award winners worthy of gift certificates.
Also, an ultimate raffle will divvy out big prices such as dog and cat amenity packages, an outdoor lover's package, a free pizza a month for a year, and a free night with dinner and roses at the Silverlake Motel presidential suite.
