Dining out about to get Ugly

The name isn't pretty sounding, but the place is pretty cool.

Housed in one of the new buildings in Riverstone, the Ugly Fish Restaurant plans to have its soft opening May 15. They call it "soft" because they can't promise they'll have their beer-wine license yet.

Back to being "cool." The decor of the place fits with the Ugly Fish theme. The walls aren't only painted with bubbles; they are sculpted to look like waves. Almost makes you dizzy. The 5,000-square-foot place overlooking Riverstone Pond (across from Bardenay) has 110 seats, a sushi bar and a beverage bar.

The menu includes traditional Chinese cuisine, seafood, steaks, Peking roast duck, Mongolian beef, Shanghai red-braised shank, lobster, wasabi mashed potatoes and, yes, ugly fish. Owner Bin Sun, who also has the Ding How Restaurant in Liberty Lake and the Ginger Asian Bistro in Spokane, studied culinary arts in his native China and came to the U.S. in 1996.

With 15-20 employees, the Ugly Fish will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and closed Mondays. Phone 667-6389. Check www.uglyfishasianbistro.com .

Relief Workers Massage opens

Several types of massage therapy services are available at Relief Workers, Inc. The business and its administrative office opened in March at 1110 W. Park Place (Suite 304) in the Ironwood area of Coeur d'Alene. The company also has an outlet in Spokane, and the office moved from the Cd'A Keller Williams Building.

Options include wellness massage, Swedish/relaxation massage, pregnancy massage, medical massage, deep-tissue massage, sports massage, manual lymph drainage and LaStone Therapy using warm and cold stones. Visiting mobile-chair massage also is offered.

The company has eight massage therapists with regular hours starting at 9 a.m. weekdays and at patients' request. Phone 509-474-2444. Email reliefworkers@msn.com.

Lakeside Mini-Mart on East Sherman

Everything usually offered at a convenience store will be available at Lakeside Mini-Mart. If all goes right, it will open in mid-May at 1311 E. Sherman Ave. (formerly the Eagle kitchen store).

The 2,500-square-foot store will have basic groceries, wine and beer and will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Owner Truong Bui, originally from Vietnam, has been in the U.S. 12 years and has another store in Spokane. He will start with three employees.

Farmers Market has new hours

New hours at the Saturday Market! It will open at 9 a.m. and close at 1:30 p.m., starting May 7. Wednesday Market will keep the same hours (4 to 7 p.m.) and will open on May 11. They also have a new website: www.kootenaifarmersmarkets.org .

Here's this week's tidbits:

• Next week we'll hit the Dangerous Dog on Third Street.

• What has most recently been the Coeur d'Alene Brewery at Second and Lakeside will be the Seasons of Coeur d'Alene. I actually heard that in the Tri-Cities area.

• Tequila Joe's in Hayden evidently is reopening.

• What had most recently been Sherman Junction Restaurant on Sherman Avenue is advertising for employees on Craigslist.
